The Ethical Dilemma Faced With Performance Enhancing...

Ethical dilemmas are something that almost every person will face at various times in their life. Often, even more than once. We were born sinners, so there are times people, even though knowing right from wrong, struggle with making the right decision. How a person works through the dilemmas they face are considerably influenced by their worldview. In this paper, we will look at the ethical dilemma a student faces when confronted with performance enhancing drugs, Christian worldview beliefs, and how different worldviews may handle the same dilemma. Ethical Dilemma Paul is a rising star on the sports field. He has been working exceedingly hard on and off the field to get to where he is today, the starting position. Some of his team mates,†¦show more content†¦When a person becomes selfish in wanting to win, over the moral truth of a situation, it becomes more of a temptation every time the occasion arises. He would be considered dishonest and lose his chances of ever going any further in the game. For the Christian worldview, Paul should want to refuse that temptation, and glorify God in his playing by what he has accomplished, not by what the drugs can do for him. Paul has the chance of ruining his reputation as a player. In Proverbs it says, â€Å"There are six things that the Lord hates† (Proverbs 6:16), and one of those being, â€Å"a lying tongue† (Proverbs 6:17, English Standard Version). If Paul wants to glorify God, he will think twice before deciding to take the performance enhancing drugs. Resolution The best resolution for Paul to take according to the Christian worldview would explain to his coaches and teammates that he is not comfortable taking the drugs. Although not illegal at the moment, there is no telling when it could become illegal causes all players to be suspended, and it is cheating. Cheating is not something the team or coaches should be proud of. Paul should let them know that by them working hard individually, and as a team, would mean so more if they win. If they lose, they would all know in their heart that they tried their very best, and can hold their head high.
